Growing Together in the Gare District

MEGARE aims to contribute to making Luxembourg City's Gare district a dynamic and supportive place where the positive development of children is at the heart of initiatives and where differences are respected and celebrated.

The Gare District: A Place Full of Diversity and Opportunities

The Gare district of the City of Luxembourg is a dynamic and multifaceted place where people of 133 nationalities live, work and grow. This diversity and a child-centered policy are crucial to developing the district and community life. Children who are true ambassadors of this cultural mosaic create connections and learn from each other, enriching their neighbourhood.

A Project With and For Children for a United and Thriving Community

The MEGARE project aims to contribute to making the Gare district an environment where social cohesion is built around children. It is structured around three main pillars:

  • Promoting the positive development of children in the district
  • Increasing the participation and visibility of children in their neighbourhood
  • Promoting social cohesion within the district

This is achieved through implementing educational projects centered on children, fostering a dynamic network of stakeholders and valuing cultural diversity.

The MEGARE project starts in October 2024 with two activities:

  • Friendly Guides (October 2024): An initiative born from an "Idea of Change" developed by children that pairs a newly arrived child with a "Friendly Guide," a specially trained local guide. The guide's mission is to welcome the child, integrate them into their new environment and provide guidance.
  • Mini Entdecker Club (October - November 2024): Participatory visits of the district with children to help them explore their environment and express their thoughts. The children's perceptions will be collected and incorporated into the further development of the MEGARE project.

The MEGARE project, launched in September 2024, builds on the successful collaboration between the City of Luxembourg and UP_FOUNDATION, initiated in 2022.
